The Most Powerful Person in the Criminal Justice System

May 17, 2018 @ 6:00 pm 7:30 pm

Many voters don’t know that one of the most important people in the criminal justice system is someone that we elect: their local prosecutor. In Vermont, our prosecutors are called ‘State’s Attorneys’ and every county has one. Learn more about the role that prosecutors play in our state and what discretion they have to send people to prison or use other alternatives.

Speakers: Robert Sand of Vermont Law School, Jessica Brown of Chittenden Public Defenders Office, and Nico Amador of ACLU of Vermont

This spring, Smart Justice Vermont is exploring questions related to mass incarceration, its causes and alternatives in The Freedom Series, an online forum for learning and discussion. All Freedom Series webinars are free and open to the public.  Register to RSVP and receive instructions on how to join via your phone or home computer.

Smart Justice Vermont is a nonpartisan campaign of the ACLU of Vermont. The ACLU of Vermont does not endorse or oppose candidates for office.
