Volunteer with a regional coalition that trains and supports federal litigators to work with immigration attorneys in securing the release of immigrants wrongfully detained by ICE.
Put your federal bar admission to work defending people unlawfully detained by ICE. This training is for attorneys barred in the District of Vermont who want to challenge ICE detentions by volunteering to file habeas petitions on behalf of unlawfully detained immigrants. The work requires only approximately 5-10 hours per petition and is supported by immigration attorneys and mentor attorneys.
Date: February 26, 2026
Time: 3:30-5:00 PM
Location: Virtual Training via Zoom
The Habeas Project of New England is a nationally recognized initiative supporting immigrants facing unlawful detention. The Project pairs immigration attorneys with federally barred attorneys to pursue habeas relief in federal court. To support the Project's expansion into Vermont, we are in urgent need of attorneys barred in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont. These cases are litigated in collaboration with an immigration attorney. You therefore do not need prior experience in immigration law to get involved.
Attendees will gain practical guidance on immigration habeas law and litigation strategy within the current landscape, learn how to represent detained immigrants in federal court, and receive information on how to get involved in this high-impact advocacy effort.
If you are interested in volunteering but cannot attend the training, please email Monica Allard at [email protected].
