The Vermont Primary Election is right around the corner on August 11th—are you ready? Making a voting plan now is the best way to ensure your voice is heard. Here is your step-by-step guide to getting ready!
Step 1: Register to Vote
The first step to casting your ballot? Make sure you’re registered! You can check your registration status and confirm your address is up to date by visiting the Vermont Voter Portal.
Aren't registered? Don't worry. You can register online through the Vermont Voter Portal, or if you prefer, register in person at your polling place on Election Day—Vermont offers same-day voter registration; just be sure to bring your ID. Also, if you are turning 18 by November 3rd, you are eligible to vote in this primary!
Step 3: Find Out Who is on the Ballot
You can log into your Vermont Voter Portal account, or your town clerk can help you see what your ballot will look like, including federal, statewide, and local candidates.
Take some time to research the candidates and see whose positions align with your own. Don’t be shy—reach out to candidates directly in local races to ask them about the issues you care about! Keep an eye out for any informational events or community forums about what is on the ballot.
Step 4: Commit to Your Plan
Now that you know your options, lock in your plan! Whether you are heading to the clerk’s office, using a drop box, or voting in person on August 11, decide exactly when you will do it.
Once you’ve returned your ballot, you can track it on the Vermont Voter Portal to make sure it was received. Remember, all ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.
