U.S. Supreme Court Rules on Vermont Campaign Finance Law
By a 6-3 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Randall v. Sorrell that Vermont`s Act 64 violates the First Amendment, as well as the Court`s own precedent against campaign spending limits.

While the ACLU of Vermont is not opposed to campaign finance reform, it joined in the challenge to the 1997 Vermont campaign finance law because of First Amendment concerns. Those concerns are clearly detailed in the petition for the writ of certiorari filed with the Court, which is posted on our Web site at the first link below.
