Murrow Against McCarthy
The film "Good Night, And Good Luck," is continuing at the Savoy Theater in Montpelier following a sell-out opening Nov. 4 with Casey Murrow, son of CBS broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow.

?Good Night, And Good Luck,? directed by George Clooney, is about the early years of television, and Murrow?s role as a pioneering TV journalist. The film centers on Murrow?s conflict with Sen. Joseph McCarthy. The title comes from Murrow?s traditional sign-off.

Casey Murrow led a discussion after the Nov. 4 screening. He offered some personal remembrances of his father, addressed the underlying issues portrayed in the film, and illucidated some details about the making of the film.

A sentiment expressed by many at the showing is that fear underlay McCarthyism, and that fear is similarly being used today to justify government infringement of personal liberties.

"Good Night, And Good Luck" is playing in other Vermont theaters, including the Roxy in Burlington. Check your local paper for listings.
