Question 1: You`ve got a new site. What`s up? |
Answer: Our previous site was great when it was created, but it needed to be updated -- both content and appearance. Our new visual look is linked to the visual look of our printed publications -- which is linked to a unified look developed for the national ACLU and for all ACLU affiliates. If you`ve got comments about the new site, please let us know by sending an e-mail. Click the "mailto" link below. |

Answer: Visit the "How Do I Get Legal Help?" section of the site. That section describes the complaint process. The link is below. |

Question 3: If I file a complaint and you represent me, what`s the cost? |
Answer: There is no cost. Our services are free. But we need to emphasize that we are not a legal services agency. The range of cases we take is very narrow -- a civil liberties issue must be involved, the case must be one that could affect a number of people, and there has to be some reasonable chance of success. We receive many complaints every year, but are able to take on only a small number. Most of our legal work is done by volunteer attorneys. Follow the link below for more information about our complaint process. |

Question 4: Can schools hold religious ceremonies on school property? |
Answer: Schools cannot, because that would be an endorsement of a particular religion -- a violation of the "Establishment Clause" of the First Amendment. Read more about religious observances in schools by following the link below. |
